Al Jazeera’s “Playlist” - Covers Mexico’s & Colombia’s Music Scene!

Posted by: Alicia Zertuche  |  May 4th, 2009  |  Category: Art, Lifestyle, Music, News, Uncategorized, Youtube

During the midst of booking madness, I received an inter-departmental e-mail stating that Al Jazeera was requesting an interview with Ximena Sariñana. As conference/festival time approaches, juggling between countless pending items and working under deadlines (like the start day of the fest) I was under a continuous adrenaline rush where I experienced many sleepless nights for several weeks. Your brain operates on overdrive and never turns off, as much you’d like it to, I recall going to bed at wee hours of the night and waking up soon after only to grab my laptop and send emails or make some notes. CRAY CRAY!

Today, Alejandro Franco, one of our dearest friends from Mexico twittered the link on Facebook. I click on the link to find SEGMENTS produced by Al Jazeera South by Southwest coverage.
Richard Gizbert presented two segments covering the musical scenes from Colombia & Mexico and extracting the majority of the content from his coverage at SXSW. This brilliant and eloquent production supported by factional verbiage accurately portrays the substance and colorful array of international talent showcased at SXSW. This made my day and I’d like to share it with the world and with everyone who has made this possible.
¡Gracias a todos, vamos por buen camino!

VIA Twitter: Ways to Discover Music & Gain Exposure!!

Posted by: Alicia Zertuche  |  May 1st, 2009  |  Category: Lifestyle, Music

Twitter you can either jump on the band wagon or miss out, it’s not only a way for you to be in loop of everyone’s business but this social networking messaging system can deliver more than you’d ever thought.
Based in an article published by WIRED, they mention how music is delivered directly to your profile by having members of your social network with the similar music affinities and how musicians are using it to gain fans on a more interactive level than Facebook or Myspace.
Here’s How - (these are excerpts from the article)

Twisten.fm: At first glance, this site is a playable list of the latest tracks to be posted to Twitter through Blip.fm, FoxyTunes, Grooveshark, Hype Machine, imeem, Last.fm, Twisten.fm itself and Twt.fm. If you sign in with your Twitter name, you can search its parent company Grooveshark’s massive library of songs to stream (and potentially embed in your own Twitter feed), and, more importantly, follow people who have posted songs you like.

Musebin.ws: Although the musical-note version of its name is sort of confusing, this site could not be any simpler. Enter an artist or album into the search box, and — bingo — Musebin.ws displays relevant tweets in seconds, so downloads or (more likely) streams are just a click away.

Tweetj-It displays the latest musical tweets — plus the “top 100 songs on Twitter” and Twitter’s fastest-rising artists.)

For Example ( twitter search): Depeche Mode ?#musicmonday OR blipfm OR hypem or imeem or twisten.fm or twiturm or twt.fm

If you want to know what’s hot, producing the next show don’t know how well the artist will do, want to have a more personal interaction with your fans or check out how artist are using this…get on the TWITTER bandwagon and get to TWEETING.

Strongly recommend you to read this article

I’ll admit to this guilty pleasure of tweeting, reading people’s tweets and being in the loop..love it!

The Best job to hold at Coachella Music Festival is…

Posted by: Alicia Zertuche  |  April 23rd, 2009  |  Category: Music

By popular demand my LA friends have nominated me for this job next year. If they were here in Austin, I’d begin training this weekend on them with my water gun but for some odd reason they can’t make the trip.

Thievery Corporation @ Coachella

Posted by: Alicia Zertuche  |  April 19th, 2009  |  Category: Art, Music

I’m under the influence of some insane miracle, “Milagro Tequila”, in one of the most beautiful deserts I’ve ever had the pleasure of being in. I’m kicking it with the founder of this blog, Edoardo, Carolina (his girlfriend), Justino and Linda…(these folks are the bombest crew ever!)

Needless to say in Texas time, this would be like 3:36 AM but in Cali time it’s 1:36 AM. I think my body is on Texas time and the only thing keeping going is this miraculous liquid recommended to me while at the local supermarket. Not to mention the great company who extended this invite to come out to Coachella and whom has hooked me up with everything. When I say everything I mean it, rides throughout the festival in golf carts, backstage passes, food ( they can cook some deeelishous food), party condo in Palm Springs (I’m staying with them), and the list is endless.
It’s because I’m such a great group of dear friends that I’ll have to continue with this blog later since I want to keep kicking it.

Some folks say pictures or actions speak more than words therefore, I’ll leave this to you.

oh.. and keep checking back because I’ll be posting more vids in the next day..

Austin get’s SMART!!!

Me in Mexico DF

photo by: Me in Mexico DF

As media outlets continue to cover news stories on our current global economic crisis, the vast majority of people continue on their daily routines and seek alternatives to live within their means. Whether it means, using public transit, recycling materials, food gardens, coupon cutting, etc., the end result has lead us to a new way of living.

In today’s breaking news online, the Austin American Statesman published a story covering the approval of Daimler (producer of the SMART car) to partner with Austin as a pilot car-share program. They’ve also purchased bicycles for employees to help with this initiative and reduce carbon emissions.

Now Austinites please, slow your ride when driving downtown, the last thing you need is to hit a city employee with your big ass vehicle. If you’ve had the opportunity to be in TEXAS then I’m sure you can attest that ” Everything in Texas is BIG”. However, reading stories like this, brings a smile and I hope more cities whether big or small begin to create some type of an awakening of consciousness by incorporating innovative ways to reduce the use of natural resources and recycle more.
